St. Joseph Regional Cancer Center
Equipment

Often the cure of cancer involves sophisticated equipment unavailable in most settings. St. Joseph Regional Cancer Center provides radiation therapy to its patients with this equipment.

Siemens Mevatron KD2
The linear accelerator is the machine used to treat individuals with cancer. Its use may kill the cancer or significantly retard its growth. The Mevatron has two photon energies (6 MV and 18 MV) and five electron energies (6 MeV, 9 MeV, 12 MeV, 15 MeV and 18 MeV) that can be utilized to treat the cancer. Each energy has unique characteristics to be enlisted in the battle against cancer.

Varian 21 EX
The linear accelerator is the machine used to treat individuals with cancer. Its use may kill the cancer or significantly retard its growth. The 21 EX has two photon energies (6 MV and 18 MV) and six electron energies (6 MeV, 9 MeV, 12 MeV, 15 MeV, 18 MeV, and 21 MeV) that can be utilized to treat the cancer. Each energy has unique characteristics to be enlisted in the battle against cancer. The Varian 21 EX serves as a platform for our Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy program (IMRT).

Siemens Simview 3000
The simulator is often the first machine seen by the radiation therapy patient. Its role is to provide an x-ray of the body site being treated. With this view of the body site the staff can plan and model the most effective course of treatment.

Oldelft Therapax HF150
This low and medium energy x-ray treatment machine is ideal for treating skin cancers or superficial lesions. It is especially effective when treating cancers around sensitive areas of the body such as the eye.
